Latest Clarification: OSH Code 2020 & Maharashtra Shops Act
Government Circular dated 30 April 2026
The Maharashtra Government has clarified the position regarding registration requirements under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 and the Maharashtra Shops & Establishments Act, 2017.
Once OSH Code registration becomes operational for establishments employing 10 or more workers, it is expected to serve as the principal registration framework. However, until implementation is fully operational, establishments must continue complying with Maharashtra Shops & Establishments requirements.
- Registration framework under OSH Code yet to be operationalized.
- Existing labour compliances continue.
- Establishments with less than 10 workers must continue Section 7 intimation.
- Inspection preparedness remains critical.
